Interesting Facts- Did you know?

 

·        Memorial Day first started in 1868.

·        Commander – in-Chief John A. Logan, issued what was called General Order Number 11, to designate May 30th as a Memorial Day.

·       Memorial Day is on Monday 29, 2023, originally known as Decoration Day.

·       The original name dates to the years following the Civil War.

·       It became an official federal holiday in 1971.

·        It is unclear where exactly this tradition originated, however, each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.

·        In 1966 the federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day.
