Latino Books Month

 


May is a special month for books written by Latino authors. It's called Latino Books Month! This means we celebrate books written by people from Latin America or of Latin American descent. There are many great books for kids written by Latino authors that you might enjoy! Here are five middle grade books or children’s books by Hispanic authors:

 

1.   Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora" by Pablo Cartaya. This book is about a boy named Arturo who tries to save his family's restaurant from a developer. It's also about his love for poetry and his abuela (grandmother).

 

2.   "Lety Out Loud" by Angela Cervantes. This book is about a girl named Lety who loves animals and wants to become a writer. She starts a blog about the animals at the local animal shelter.

 

3.   “The Dream Weaver" by Reina Luz Alegre. This book is about a girl named Zoey who learns how to weave dreams from her grandmother. She tries to use this power to help her father who is in a coma.

 

4.   “Islandborn” by Junot Diaz. This book is about a girl named Lola who tries to remember the island where she was born. She interviews her family members and learns about their experiences on the island.

 

5.   “The Only Road" by Alexandra Diaz. This book is about two siblings who flee Guatemala to escape the violence there. They must travel to the United States and face many dangers along the way.
