7 Things Moms Should Do Every Day for Their Children

My Goddaughter loves to be hugged. Even though she is in middle school, she frequently extends her arms and requests a hug. And when she asks, I drop everything and hug. Because she's not just a hugger... she's a long hugger. So, I put everything I was doing or planning to do on hold until she let me go. She makes it simple for me to do one of the seven things you should do every day with your children: show physical affection. Hugs are her favorite.

I show affection to my less affectionate 12-year-old nephew by mussing his Mohawk or giving him a quick good afternoon kiss before a practice session.  And if those opportunities don't come up, I'll challenge him to some thumb wrestling. Isn't it worth it to do whatever it takes to make contact? Amid our hectic days, it is all too easy to rush through the hours. Make sure you don't overlook these 7 things moms should do for their children daily to foster a strong parent-child relationship.

1. Express physical affection.

Connect with your child- make the time. Take a seat and allow your child to crawl onto your lap. Make hugging enjoyable. Muss your adolescent son's hair. As you tuck your children into bed, kiss them on the cheek.

2. Be completely present.

What we need to do to get there, but It’s not always easy. When our children require our attention, we must put down our phones, turn off our iPads, and stop loading the laundry. Participate in conversations with them to learn more about them.

3. Be considerate.

We love our children without a doubt but love without kindness doesn’t feel very loving. Many of us found this topic helpful – ‘5 Ways to Be a Kind Mom because we all want to be that type of mother to our children’ an iMOM post.

4. Use loving language.

Words are powerful even more so coming from a mother. Make every effort to ensure that the majority of what you say to your children conveys your love and acceptance. Compliment them daily and avoid saying negative words without reinforcing them with something positive reflecting the child’s positive traits and abilities.

5. Maintain a calm demeanor when disciplining.

Calmly! It’s best to discipline our children calmly. While yelling at them may feel good and appear to be effective, it is not. Keeping our cool while talking to our children allows us to discipline them with firmness rather than harshness.

6. Share your laughter with them.

A healthy parent-child relationship necessitates a healthy dose of levity. Laugh with your children about what they find amusing. Make a note of anything you find amusing. And if everything else fails, tickle them!

7. Pray alongside them.

When we pray with our children, we demonstrate to them that we trust in God. This teaches them that they, too, can rely on God and that God's love for us serves as the foundation for our love for them.
