Panda specie was first declared to be endangered in 1990 mainly because of
excessive deforestation and farmland extension, which lead to depletion of
their primary food source – Bamboos.
Now more than 67 Panda
reserves are working across the country and working to preserve and protect the
Pandas. Thanks to the prompt conservation efforts by Chinese, the Panda
population has increased to 17% from 2003 till 2014, and the total number of Panda’s
living in the wild has reached to 1,864 individuals.

Facts about Panda
1. The newborn panda babies are pink in
color and furless. The iconic black and white patches start appearing after three
weeks.
2. If Mother Panda gave birth to twin
pandas, it will abandon one cub and usually raise the strong one because the
milk is not sufficient for two cubs.
3. The baby panda is dependent on the mother
for almost two months after birth.
4. Pandas are carnivores and have sharp
theeth. However, they are vegetarian by habitat, their food comprises 99% Bamboos,
and the other 1% may include fruits like apple, eggs, some well-selected feed
made from corn, soya bean, or wheat.
5. Young Pandas are excellent swimmers,
and they can climb trees from seven month age.
Most of the time, Pandas
spend on eating or sleeping, and an adult panda can eat up to 12 to 38kgs (or
26.45 lb to 83.78 lb) of Bamboos per day.
6. The current 25% population of pandas
belongs to a male panda ‘Pan Pan’ who
died at the age of 31 out of cancer, but before dying, he fathered 130 Pandas.
7. The estimated lifespan of an adult
panda in the wild is around 20 years.
8. Most of the newborn baby pandas die
by accidently crushed by their mother pandas
9. Baby Pandas stay with their mother
for as long as three years, and therefore, the mother panda can take care of
two or three cubs in her total lifespan.
