EARTH DAY - April 22nd
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day is celebrated every year on April
22. It's a special day when people all around the world
do things to take care of our planet.
That means keeping the land, air, and water
clean, protecting animals and plants, and learning how to live in a way that
doesn’t hurt the Earth.
What
Can YOU Do for Earth Day?
As an Individual:
- Pick up litter at your local park or around your
school.
- Recycle paper, plastic, cans, and glass
the right way.
- Plant a seed or tree and watch it grow.
- Turn off lights and electronics when you're not using them to
save energy.
- Take shorter showers to save water.
- Use a reusable water bottle instead of single-use plastic.
As
a Class:
- Create a poster or bulletin board showing ways to help the Earth.
- Write Earth Day poems, songs, or
raps and
share them with other classes.
- Start a recycling program in your school if there isn’t
one.
- Make a class Earth Pledge with promises to help the planet.
As a Family:
- Plant a garden—even a few pots with herbs or
vegetables counts!
- Bike or walk instead of driving.
- Turn off lights for one hour at night and tell stories by
candlelight.
- Visit a local farmers' market and talk about local food and why
it's better for the Earth.
With
Neighbors or in the Community:
- Organize a cleanup day in your neighborhood.
- Start a compost bin with food scraps and leaves.
- Share extra vegetables or flowers from your garden with neighbors.
- Host a “swap day” to exchange gently used toys or
clothes instead of buying new ones.
