👀 AUGUST IS CHILDREN'S EYE HEALTH & SAFETY MONTH! 🌞

Helping Little Eyes See Big Adventures!

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Kids!

Did you know that August is Children's Eye Health & Safety Month? It’s the perfect time to help keep those amazing little eyes healthy and ready for learning, playing, and exploring!

A Few Easy Ways to Protect Young Eyes

👓 Play It Safe!

If your child plays sports like baseball, basketball, or racquet sports, protective sports eyewear can help prevent eye injuries.

🧸 Choose Safe Toys

Select toys that are age-appropriate and avoid those with sharp edges or objects that can be launched through the air. Adult supervision during play is always a great idea.

😎 Shade Those Eyes- Don’t Forget the Sunshine!

Bright days are fun and adventurous! Help protect children’s eyes with:

  • UV-blocking sunglasses
  • A wide-brimmed hat
  • Plenty of sunscreen for the rest of the body, too!

💻 Give Eyes a Break

When reading, gaming, and screen time (tablets or computers) encourage children to:

  • Look away from the screen every 20 minutes.
  • Blink often to keep eyes comfortable.
  • Sit at a comfortable distance from the screen.

👁️ Did You Know?

Many children don't realize they're having trouble seeing because they think everyone sees the same way they do.

Many vision problems can be treated successfully when they're found early. Regular eye exams help children see their best, at school, on the playground, and in everyday life.

      Fun Eye Facts!

  • 👀 Your eyes blink about 15–20 times every minute!

Did you Know? You blink roughly 900–1,200 times per hour and 14,400–19,200 times per day!  😉

  • 🌈 No two irises are exactly alike, even identical twins have different eye patterns.
  • 🧠 Nearly 80% of what children learn in school is presented visually, making healthy vision an important part of learning.
  • 😊 Smiling, sleeping well, eating colorful fruits and vegetables, and playing outside all support healthy development, including healthy eyes!

      Helpful Resources

Organizations like Prevent Blindness provide free fact sheets, family guides, videos, webinars, and other educational resources to help parents, caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals learn more about children's:

  • Eye health fact sheets
  • Safety tips
  • Videos
  • Family toolkits
  • Educational webinars

Many organizations also support efforts like the Early Detection of Vision Impairments for Children (EDVI) Act, which encourages better access to vision screenings and eye care for children across the country.

Healthy eyes today help children see a brighter tomorrow!

Remember...

Healthy eyes help children:
Read with confidence
Explore the world
Learn new things
Enjoy sports and play
Dream big!

Let's work together to help every child see a bright future! 🌞👓

This layout works beautifully as a one-page color newsletter. You can add:

  • a banner across the top with children wearing colorful glasses,
  • a small "Eye Health Hero" cartoon mascot,
  • fun eye-themed clip art throughout,
  • and a "Challenge of the Month": Spend one hour playing outside each day (with sunglasses when it's sunny!) or eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables this week! These little touches make the newsletter more engaging for children while keeping the message informative and fun.
