  For 6–7 Year Olds (1st–2nd Grade)

1.   “Frog and Toad Are Friends” by Arnold Lobel – Adventures of two best friends.

2.   Henry and Mudge” series by Cynthia Rylant – A boy and his big, lovable dog.

3.   “Amelia Bedelia” by Peggy Parish – Funny misunderstandings from a very literal housekeeper.

4.   “Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes” by Eric Litwin – Music, colors, and cool attitude.

5.   “The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!” by Mo Willems – Silly story with expressive characters.

6.   “I Have a Pet”  by Vivienne Munn- A joyful read about kids and their adorable pets.




For 10-Year-Olds (5th Grade)

1.   “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown – A robot learns to survive in the wild.


2.   “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” by Louis Sachar – Wacky short stories from a 30-story school.


3.   “Frindle” by Andrew Clements – A boy invents a new word.


4.   “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate – A thoughtful story told by a gorilla.


5.   “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan – Mythology meets modern-day adventure.

          Fun Facts: Year-Round Schools Around the World










Did you know? Not every country has a long summer break like the U.S.!

·         🇯🇵 Japan – Kids go to school year-round with several short breaks (summer break is about 5–6 weeks).

·         🇩🇪 Germany – School is spread out with longer breaks throughout the year, but still includes summer vacation (about 6 weeks).

·         🇦🇺 Australia – Since it’s in the Southern Hemisphere, the long summer break happens in December and January!

·         🇰🇷 South Korea – Year-round schooling with winter and summer breaks; school days can be long, even into the evening!

·         🇧🇷 Brazil – The school year starts in February and ends in December, with a long break in January.
