Picture Book Day – March 28, 2025

To the book lovers! Did you know that today is Picture Book Day? That’s right! It’s a day to celebrate those awesome books filled with colorful illustrations and fun stories that we all loved growing up (and still secretly enjoy!).

Why Are Picture Books So Special?

Even though they may seem like they’re just for little kids, picture books are actually for everyone!

Fun Facts:
They tell BIG stories in few words – A picture book can say a thousand words with just one illustration!
They spark creativity – The bright colors and imaginative artwork make our brains think in new and exciting ways.
They make reading fun – Sometimes, a picture can explain an idea better than words alone.
They bring back memories – Do you remember your favorite picture book as a little kid?

How to Celebrate Picture Book Day!

So why not- Revisit Your Favorites – Dig up an old favorite like Where the Wild Things Are or The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Make Your Own – Try writing and illustrating your own short picture book. (You don’t have to be a great artist—stick figures count!)
Read to Someone Younger – If you have a younger sibling or cousin, share a story with them!
🖍️ Redraw a Scene – Pick a page from a picture book and redraw it in your own style!

Did you know?

The first modern picture book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, was self-published in 1901 because publishers didn’t believe in books with so many pictures. (They sure were wrong about that! 🐰📖)

December 16, 1901. To be exact! 😉
